Daily Bread

From Today's Office
Have mercy on me, O LORD, according to your unfailing love.
Psalm 51:1a
The call does not usually come in the form of a tap on the shoulder. Rarely does he send an angel as he did to Mary of Nazareth, or even a saint as he did Joan of Arc. The call more often comes in the form of a moment of insight in the midst of our musings—perhaps as we read words such as these, or through the sharing of a friend. We have to remain in listening mode, or we will miss it. —M. Basil Pennington, Praying the Holy Scriptures, Paraclete Press
Prayer of the Day

Lord Jesus, the scribes and Pharisees refused to believe because they saw you only with the eyes of flesh. Give me the gift of always seeing with eyes of the Spirit that I may see as you see and be of help to others. Amen.
